Role of Acoustic Guitars in Worship

There are many purposes of acoustic guitar in a band.  The acoustic guitar is a rhythm instrument and provides rhythm in a band.  The acoustic adds rhythm to the band as a whole, along with the bass and drums; The acoustic is unique because it can add depth and fuller sound with a bigger band.   But it can also be a standalone solo act.  The acoustic is very versatile and is used by many musicians to accompany them-selves as they sing.   There are different styles of playing acoustic:  Finger picking, strumming, and solo.

My role in the band like every other one of us is to worship.  And I express that with the acoustic guitar.  The acoustic normally leads rhythmically during slower tempo worship songs, the acoustic can play at all times, but the key is playing tastefully. I picked up a guitar awhile back to just accompany my sporadic worship.  That never stopped.  In the band, it’s a bit different.  Now timing is everything.  As long as every time I pick up the guitar, God is praised and worship, that’s the only reason I need. -John
